Guajiros

It was one of my first trips to Cuba. After taking photographs of the Art Deco buildings of The Havana, I got curious about the crossbreeding  of the island, its different skins. I took my camera and black & white film, determined to portrait different people of the city, but I didn't have enough! I wanted more!I decided to travel to the western side of the island, Pinar del Rio and Viñales. When I got there I let instinct guide me. I wander and wander through tobacco and sugar cane fields and I entered the core of an unknown geography. There, I found another kind of skin: I found another kind of Cubans! All this wandering led to the series of photographs Habaneros y Guajiros. Maybe I stole someone's soul...
